Who knows what gross abuses of human rights, freedom
of the press and religious liberty drove these
desperate young men to these harsh measures, after all
peaceful means of securing their civil rights had been
exhausted?
Perhaps Frowick can be loaned out by OSCE to broker a
peace deal? Or his predecessor/role model Willam
Walker himself, to stage a massacre of innocent
civilians?
And the cruel and draconian incarceration of the
freedom fighters' colleagues, forced to resort to
narcotics trafficking, murder and rapine because of
the savage repression of what, I'm certain,
Christopher Hitchens would label the "drunken
Tajik-fascists."
And, say, how can we work Slobodan Milosevic into thie
picture? A quote from Madeleine Albright? A leaked
report from an anonymous source in Sofia?

Gunmen Seize 15 Hostages in Tajikistan
June 16, 2001 4:09 am EST
DUSHANBE (Reuters) - Gunmen in eastern Tajikistan have
kidnapped 15 people, including a U.S. citizen and two
Germans, to demand the release of several murder
suspects, a Security Ministry official said on
Saturday.
The gunmen seized 15 civilians working for the German
non-government organization Agro Action on Friday
during their visit to Tavildara district, some 180 km
(112 miles) east of the capital Dushanbe, the official
told Reuters.
The kidnappers were demanding the release of four or
five people arrested last month on suspicion of taking
part in the murder of deputy Interior Minister Khabib
Sanginov in April, the official said.
Later on Friday, the kidnappers released four
hostages, including German Beathe Schorait, who heads
Agro Action's Tajik mission, but seized four local
Security Ministry servicemen. The remaining hostages
include two Germans and an American.
Two of the kidnapped Agro Action workers hold Russian
passports, an organization official told Reuters. He
declined to give any further details.Tajikistan, a
mountainous Central Asian state of 6.2 million people,
remains unstable after years of civil war. The
impoverished country is flooded with weapons and
killings and kidnappings are commonplace.
Officials declined to say what steps were being taken
to free the hostages.
A maverick band took hostage a group of policemen in
eastern Tajikistan in April. Three of the police were
found dead several days later.
A French aid worker, held hostage by an armed group,
was killed in December 1997 during a bungled rescue
attempt by government forces.
