Nick Griffin, the leader of the BNP who stood in Oldham at the last general election and received 16% of the vote is to be interviewed by Jeremy Paxman on tonight's Newsnight programme in relation to the situation in Burnley, we have just learned. The BNP received 4151 votes in Burnley, 11.2% of the vote. In Oldham, about 30 miles away, they received almost 12,000 votes, which, if maintained, could guarantee them several council seats at next year's local elections. NAAR has already protested at the decision by tonight's Newsnight Editor Peter Lunn to organise this interview with Griffin. We would like everyone to call to complain at the interview. We believe an interview with one of the most widely respected journalists on TV, however skillfully done, will put Griffin on a par with Prime Ministers and senior politicians. We believe this is giving a self avowedly racist party, which wants the forced deportation of all black people from Britain and has been linked to so many racist murders, platform to build towards an even bigger vote at the local elections next year. The BBC should not give platform to the BNP or any other far right groups. An interview with Jeremy Paxman will only help to legitimise them, further endangering the lives and safety of Asian communities in oldham and Burnley, already under siege from constant racist attacks. Please call to complain. The number is: 08700 100 222. Please pass it onto all on your contact list. Milena Buyum Co-ordinator NAAR Tel: 020 7247 9907 To unsubscribe, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED] |
