"If we are invited to participate on an equal basis (as NATO units), then I regard this as quite possible," Interfax news agency quoted Ivanov as saying. The final decision on such an operation lies with the Macedonian leadership which must be given all possible assistance to halt the penetration of the gunmen into its territory, he stressed. NATO spokesmen on Wednesday said the Western military alliance is ready to mount the mission provided there is a peace accord between the government and insurgents.
