The letter indicated that the aid and vehicles which had been impounded yesterday by US Customs are now officially seized. Two trucks and a trailer containing two valuable anaesthesia machines, EKG machines, defibrillators, and other medical equipment, remain in US Customs custody. The medical equipment is all designated to be donated to Cuba. Our friends at Let Cuba Live indicated that they were 'stunned' by the ruling, but that they are completely committed to mounting an ongoing campaign for the release of the medical aid for Cuba. Federal offices (OFAC, Treasury, Congress, etc.) will be closed for the July 4 holiday. Meanwhile the Let Cuba Live activists will be regrouping, strategizing for their next mass actions, and continuing to get the word out about the aid seizure. The story is getting extensive newspaper and radio coverage in Maine and Quebec, and media interest across the US has been growing. We'll keep you posted about their plans for action and outreach, and about how we can continue to help keep the pressure on when Washington reopens for business on Thursday.
