Representatives of the most influential Colombian resistance movements have announced their participation in the Anti-imperialist Camp. In the last months, Colombia has been repeatedly present in the worldwide mass media due to the so-called “Plan Colombia”, one of the latest and most drastic inventions of the US-Imperialism’s foreign policy. In fact, the Plan Colombia pretends to provide funding and technical assistance to the Colombian government in order to support the eradication of drug cultivation and trade. However, this is nothing more than a mere pretext, since those funds and technical assistance are being used to crash the Colombian popular resistance movement. Colombia has a long history of popular insurgency and guerrilla warfare. It hosts the oldest Latin America guerrilla organisation, and whereas in most Latin American countries the insurgent organisations of the 70ies and 80ties have been either defeated or integrated into the state, the Colombian guerrilla and popular movement is still resisting. However, the reactionary pressure on the popular movement is growing. The corrupt state apparatus, although pretending to seek peace, openly finances and supports the paramilitary groups who harass, torture and kill the poor population in order to weaken the popular support for the guerrilla movement. The Plan Colombia has been providing enormous financial and military aid to these forces resulting in growing difficulties for the resistance movement. The guerrilla and the various popular and trade union movements have been struggling for decades for better living conditions of the impoverished and exploited masses. Against the national and imperialist propaganda, which is trying to portray them as drug dealers and terrorist, they are stating: “Colombia needs peace through social justice!” The Colombian people need our solidarity! Representatives of the most influential popular movements, both fighting and civil ones, will be present at the Anti-imperialist Camp. They will explain their people’s difficult situation, but also their heroic struggle and resistance.
