BLIC: MOST OF KOSOVO SERBS BECAME MISSING AFTER DEPLOYMENT OF KFOR
CONTINGENT AND UN CIVIL MISSION

Many Yugoslav newspaper discuss the ambivalent approach displayed by the
international community to the suffering of various peoples on the "hot"
Balkan Peninsula. Almost all the papers report of the commemoration of
Serbian victims in Kravice village which took place the other day.
"Justice should equal for all," Mirko Sarovic, the president of the
Republika Srpska (in Bosnia) is quoted as saying. In his view, the
"Truth of all crimes committed against Serbs in the Bosnian war has not
yet been revealed, although thousands of peaceful citizens died then.
The papers "Politika," "Danas," "Vecernje Novine" and others mention
that the commemoration ceremony was not attended by any of the
representatives of the "international community." Apparently, the West
is reluctant to pay heed the suffering of Serbs in Bosnia. It is
noteworthy that the day before, at a mourning ceremony to commemorate
Moslem victims in Srebrenica, the entire diplomatic corps from Sarajevo
was present, Yugoslav papers say.
Such a double-standard approach is disclosed in the Belgrade newspaper
"Blic." It publishes an article about the plight of the families of
Serbs missing in Kosovo. The fate of nobody out of 1,300 (according to
the official statistics) missing Serb nationals, including over 300
children, has not been clarified so far. At that, most of those Serbs
became missing after the deployment in Kosovo of the Kfor contingent and
the US Civil Mission, the paper says. "At that time, Albanian terrorists
would kidnap Serbs from wherever they like - from the streets, from
homes, from workplaces, and even from hospital wards, the peacekeeping
forces turning a blind eye to those occurrences, according to the
"Blic." The kidnappings were accompanied by such evil deeds as torture,
rape, murder. The relatives of those missing have desperately tried to
find out anything, but their hopes are becoming slimmer and slimmer day
after day.
Interestingly, the fate of the missing Kosovo Serbs seems to be of no
interest for the West which is so ostentatiously concerned with human
rights all over the world. So far, it has only been concerned with the
fate of Albanian terrorists serving their terms in Serbian prisons.
