Hello,
I recently attached a Sun Storedge L8 on a Sun280R with Solaris 10.
The scsi card is an original Sun one.
After modifying the /kernel/drv/sgen.conf as I usually do, and rebooted with
reconfigure, I found the correct devices in /dev/rmt and /dev/scsi/changer.

Then I tried to operate on the L8 through the installed command mtx, as I
usually do on other machines (mtx -f /dev/scsi/changer/xxxx status).
Even though the L8 is loaded with 7 new tapes (and the L8 display panel shows
them), the mtx command answers as if all the slots were empty.
Then I tried to load slot 1 into slot 0 (the write slot), and the L8 did the
job.
Then I reissued the status command, but the output was still the same as if the
L8 slots were all empty.
With the slot 0 loaded (I could see it in the L8 panel) I did a test backup
with a tar on the rmt, and I could correctly write and test the written data.
So I tried un unload (with no parameter, the command should unload the slot 0
into the previously loaded slot).
The output showed that mtx was trying to unload into slot 2! And infact the
command did not succede as the slot 2 was full.
So I specified an unload into slot 1, and the machine did the job.
Running again a status, mtx showed all empty slots!!

...what's happening? do I have something wrong in the sgen dirver? Maybe some
patches? Or maybe something wrong in the scsi card? Maybe some switch to move
on the scsi card?
Please...help!

Gabriele.
