Howdy,

We had a 50GB Clariion CX700 LUN presented to an X64 Solaris 10 host,
and we decided to increase the size of the LUN by converting it to a
200GB meta LUN. Once the meta LUN conversion completed, we went into
format to select a type, and chose 0 (auto configure) from the type
screen:

format> type

AVAILABLE DRIVE TYPES:
       0. Auto configure
       1. DEFAULT
       2. DEFAULT
       3. DEFAULT
       4. other

Specify disk type (enter its number)[3]: 0
c5t600601602B9318008CD071B0FF7BDB11d0: configured with capacity of 49.99GB
<DGC-RAID5-0322 cyl 3276253 alt 2 hd 1 sec 32>
selecting c5t600601602B9318008CD071B0FF7BDB11d0

The default type indicates that the LUN is 50GB in size, even though
we actually resized the LUN on the Clarion (luxadm reports the LUN as
200GB). Being somewhat curious, I decided to see what would happen if
I chose one of the "DEFAULT" entries from the menu (I ran some tests
in our lab). When I chose DEFAULT entry 3, format was able to derive
the correct values:

format> type

AVAILABLE DRIVE TYPES:
       0. Auto configure
       1. DEFAULT
       2. DEFAULT
       3. DEFAULT
       4. DGC-RAID5-0322
       5. other

Does anyone happen to know why auto configuration doesn't pick up the
changes to the device? Is there a reason there are three DEFAULT
entries in the type selection menu? Since the DEFAULT entries don't
have descriptions with the device type information, I had to use trial
and error to see what would happen when I assigned that type to the
device. Also, is there a reason that the total number of cylinders
reported in the partition heading don't match what is displayed for
slice 2?:

# Partiion table menu
Current partition table (original):
Total disk cylinders available: 6524 + 2 (reserved cylinders)

# Slice 2 from the print partition screen
2 backup wu 0 - 26104 199.97GB (26105/0/0) 419376825

Thanks for any insight,
- Ryan
