you forgot:

a) simplicity of AoE spec which leads to more stable
implementations/solutions, hence AoE implementations gains uptimes...

b) vfs/application overhead eats CPU too, so by excluding TCP/IP, AoE
gains performance...

c) TOE are dead-end solutions.
