Victor Li,

He has emailed me the full trace.
I will forward that to you as well.

Vic,

From the packet that you pasted below, it looks like the problem is on Microsoft iSNS server, it did not send back correct information that initiator requested for.

When the command "iscsiadm list isns-server -v" is issued, the initiator will request target node name and portal information from the isns server, from the malformed packet that Microsoft isns server sends back, there is only target iqn name, no portal information, I guess this is the reason why it cannot connect to the target.

Could you please trace the packets on port 3205 which come from both initiator and server for command "iscsiadm list isns-server -v" and let us check if we can find more information?

Thanks,
Victor

I have a problem where my solaris 10 update 2 client fails to properly retrieve it's target information from a Microsoft 3.0 server. It registers with the server ok but then it can't connect to the target IQN it gets from the server.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]>]iscsiadm list isns-server -v
iSNS Server IP Address: 10.61.17.53:3205
       Unable to get targets.

The initiator does determine from the iSNS server that it should connect to this target...

Feb 23 09:33:43 shsun18 iscsi: [ID 286457 kern.notice] NOTICE: iscsi connection(34) unable to connect to target iqn.1992-08.com.netapp:sn.33603897 (errno:128)

But the connection isn't possible because the IQN was all the initiator was able to retrieve from the iSNS server. I'll paste in below a trace of the iSNS server reply to the initiator to correspond with the iscsiadm list isns-server -v command above. The command was repeated several times during the trace which includes only port 3205 traffic. If anyone want the full trace I can email it but can't seem to attach it here.

Any ideas what I might be doing wrong? I get the malformed packet message in the iSNS server's reply everytime.
Thanks,
Vic
