Hello list, I've currently got 2 se6130 shelves, one is acting as a controller and the other is an expansion shelf. What I would like to do is pull one of the controllers from the controller shelf and put it into the expansion shelf, creating two independent controller shelves. I really would like to do this because we don't really require redundancy at the path/controller level and need to have these things plugged into different hosts in different physical locations.
Furthermore if I can do that, is there any reason I cant pop the expansion module into the blank "B" slot just to kind of fill the hole or even possibly attach something to it in a non redundant fashion? I also have a SATA expansion shelf.. And apparently they cant even have controllers attached to them. Seems like these 6130 controllers really like to travel in pairs, if I remove one controller I cant figure out tell CAM (service advisor) that its not coming back. And if the news isn't good for me on those questions.. I do wonder if there is a way to run these guys without controllers, JBOD style? I've never tried it but I wonder if I just plug a host directly into a expansion module, will I see disks? Will I be struck down by lightning? Thanks for any insight! -Andy Lubel ((seeking JBODS for zfs)) _______________________________________________ storage-discuss mailing list [email protected] http://mail.opensolaris.org/mailman/listinfo/storage-discuss
