For now, the Java API and the C API and WebDAV-based access using a 
"virtual view" are the three supported ways to access Honeycomb.   
Several third-parties are also working on other access methods.    I 
like your idea of writing a small wrapper so PHP can call into one of 
these APIs more directly.   I am not aware of anyone doing this work 
already.

We also have a stated goal of putting our APIs and SDK into Open Source 
quite soon.  Once this happens, people may wish to extend the 
client-side libraries.   For example, customers might write new language 
bindings that talk to Honeycomb directly rather than going through C or 
Java.
