A OpenSolaris port of FUSE is, I think, making good progress: http://www.opensolaris.org/os/project/fuse/ http://mail.opensolaris.org/pipermail/fuse-discuss/ And having the filesystem in userspace may simplify the licencing issues. Ok, performance will not be as good as a kernel implementation. But if it is just a one-off data migration then performance may not be too big an issue.
