I use the target quite a lot and I'd be comfortable running a database on it. As with any database on networked storage ensure that you cache as much as you can to avoid network and disk latency.
Lots of people are backing off the existing target in order to wait for COMSTAR, but the existing iSCSI Target written by Rick McNeil is really a very impressive implementation. My only word of caution would be to watch its performance carefully under heavy random loads. benr.
