The Solaris 10 Emulex driver configuration includes a parameter called
'max-xfer-size' which is only paid attention to on i386 platforms.
While the text of the /kernel/drv/emlxs.conf file provides a
description, the parameter is not mentioned in the Emulex manuals.
On my system this value is defaulted to 339,968 which is the top end
of the 'small' range. The medium range is from 339969 - 688128, and
the large range is from 688129 - 1388544.

Under what conditions would increasing the maximum size of the SCSI
scatter gather list improve performance? Other than increasing the
memory footprint, is there any risk to increasing it?
