If you fill a thumper, you have various options: - Upgrade the drives on the thumper (max 72GB today with 1.5GB drives) - Add an external SAS card, and attach an external J4500 array (or three) (max 288GB today) - Upgrade to fishworks, and create an array of thumpers (max 512GB I believe) - Buy a 2nd thumper, and an x4240, use iSCSI to create a tiered pool and migrate your data to this (a fair bit of work, and with a couple of limitations, but there's almost no limit to how large your pool could grow)
All of those give you a larger pool to play with, with no mapping needed. Bear in mind though that I'm no storage expert and all that's just off the top of my head. I'm sure there are other options too.
