Ah, thank goodness for that, I thought I had done it all very, very wrong in ESX!
A friend has suggested that I am making life tricky for myself using Solaris [clearly he isn't aware of ZFS, which is the real reason I want to play with it...] as an iSCSI target, and has pointed me in the direction of Openfiler [www.openfiler.com] which I am currently downloading at a shockingly slow rate. That will have to do in the meantime for the proof of concept stuff I suppose. I work in the government so chances are by the time I get approval to build this system, the ESX bug will be ironed out - I do like the concept of a few commodity boxes with ZFS RAIDZ set up as backup/redundant SAN devices, as chances are we will go with something COTS hardware for the main SAN...
