We are seeking the endorsement of the Device Drivers and Storage communities for
a new project: Promise SuperTrak RAID HBA Driver
The purpose of this project is to provide early access to a Solaris driver that
will enable RAID on OpenSolaris systems with Promise SATA and SAS/SATA RAID
PCI-express controller hardware.
The sts driver ("SuperTrak Storage" HBA) belongs to the SATA/SAS line of Host
Bus Adapters that provide hardware RAID storage. The sts driver was a jointly
developed CDDL driver based on BSD source version by Promise. Sun paid for
contract work to produce the driver under CDDL by Dexcel Corp in India. This
line of cards features Intel I/O processors for SATA-only and SAS/SATA (aka
Brockton and Sunrise Lake). An sts6 driver for next generation HBA that has 6
Gbps interfaces could also be done in this project.
Promise Technology, Inc. (http://www.promise.com/) is a storage HBA vendor that
provides both small business to large enterprise storage HBAs and finished
Storage Arrays. Often known as a price-performance leader in RAID storage. They
currently provide Solaris-Ready certified VTrak storage subsystems.
According to Article VIII of the OpenSolaris Constitution, we need three +1
votes from Core Contributors in each of these two communities within 72 hours
and no -1 votes. Since the U.S. has a holiday, the deadline for endorsing this
proposed project is 5pm Pacific Time Wednesday, July 8.
