Maybe this is because zfs is not able to determine the origin of the checksum error so it marks all of the devices in the raidz1 vdev as degraded?

I would never use raidz1 for large (more than 1TB in a vdev) storage because I would surely have to change my diaper as soon as one drive failed. I am just not that brave.
