It just so happens I'm working on a similar project.  I've got a 2nd thumper on 
the way from Sun now.  ZFS isn't capable of replicating across the network; 
however, I've been looking at ACS to do this.  ACS is a whole lot freer than it 
used to be and from what I've read so far it's a very mature product.
