Hi Mike,
I thought that too, but subsequently we have replaced all the drives that made up the data pool and built a new pool (raidz2 this time, single top-level vdev). I have not seen a return of the problems that we had with the old drives.

The server had been in use for about 3 months when this happened, and the pool had not been scrubbed (terrible oversight on my part). Since the host was a backup server, the bulk of the data written was rarely, if ever, read again. In retrospect this seems like a classic case of latent corruption going undetected until it's too late.

That said, when I got the new drives I also ordered a spare controller. :)

Cheers,
Eric
