I feel your pain... I too am looking at alternatives. I will probably start testing with Red Hat they have a Global File System that looks intriguing. ZFS is something that I am looking forward to using just not until about 2015 or so. Maybe they'll have "hover conversion" on it by then (sorry... bad "back to the future reference").
