Another possibility is the network driver is broken and when it gets too big a segment it gives up and punts it to the nic which then balks at it and the whole network stalls out.

I'd have the OP try disabling TSO on the ini and see if that does the trick and if it does I'd get an updated driver and reset the NDIS stack after installing it.
