Wait, what? The only time the ZIL is read is during an import if there are unplayed log records. The only time you need to read the ZIL is after you've already lost the memory copy of your sync writes. So, yeah, there ARE going to be worries if you're importing a pool and you cannot open your log device.

Mirroring the slog gives you protection against a single drive failure.
