Can't do raidz* on a root pool. Also, # of discs shouldn't be your motivating
factor.
Reliability and usability/manageability should be more important. Keep data off
the
root discs/pool.

The days where IDE controllers used different geometry and you couldn't read an
fs on a different
computer are gone, I haven't seen that since I was a kid. Move'em and life goes
on. Backups though:)

Anyway you want, move them or reinstall Solaris and import them etc.

>Available hardware for this is an:
>Intel C2D 2.66Ghz
>MSI P35 NEO (1xIDE, 5xSATA, 1Gb LAN)
>Nvidia 7600GS
>2x80GB 7200rpm IDE Maxtor - Hopefully a ZFS Mirrored boot drive
>4x250GB 7200rpm SATA2 Samsung - Hopefully a ZFS RAIDZ storage drive

Don't know anything about that mobo, but I would assume if you have an option in
the bios to enable AHCI versus whatever else they call non AHCI mode such as
IDE|LEGACY|COMPATIBLE etc etc, you should choose AHCI.
