I seem to recall a court case in Germany against D-Link.
What aspect of GPL was tested in this case? D-Link makes routers and
bridges so they probably used the software in an embedded environment
without providing source code. This is a case of "cut and dried" which
does not test GPL. Recently there has been a similar suit against
cisco. Generally the offender agrees to offer source code as per GPL
and there is no more action.
From what I remember, D-Link were taken to court over GPL
violations (I don't remember the details).
D-Link tried to argue that the GPL didn't apply and wasn't
legally binding. They lost the case and agreed to stop
distributing the product.
