On the other hand modern SSD's by design contain also a cache (64-128MB). E.g. The modern Postville G2 SSD's come with a 128 MB cache on board. For me this cache must be capacitor protected - altought I'm not sure - otherwise data integrity can not be ensured in any way. So my assumtion ist that this on-SSD cache is capacitor protected (like a BBU not needed to be maintained).
The cache on the vast majority of SSDs is volatile and not protected by a super-capacitor. You must assume that a SSD has a volatile cache unless you have paid the bucks (or euros) for one of the rare SSDs which assures that its cache is saved.
