Does anyone have any recommendations for a SAS/SATA external controller that can handle > devices ala JBOD. I want something that is well supported in OpenSolaris, and plan to use for JBOD.
My current proposed configuration is a Dell R610 server with 2 internal disks for the root pool, 4 - 2.5inch bays open for SSD drive expansion. Initially we are starting small, so probably a single 64GB Intel X-25E for slog/l2arc The JBOD I am looking at is 24 drive - http://www.pc-pitstop.com/sas_cables_enclosures/scsase24.asp which we are planning to populate with 2TB 7200RPM sata in using mirrored vdevs. I am looking for a good controller to run this jbod that will work well under opensolaris (snv134+), hopefully by the time it is all out it will be 2010.03. The intended purpose is to provide a mix of block level iscsi to vmware hosts and generic home directory style access via NFS/CIFS.
