Two different things - if the driver is installed on your system
then it should load on demand.
scanpci sees it:

but that's it... cfgadm -al after devfsadm is not showing me the
controller or the devices behind it, just the same usb and sata ports.
Have you run
pkg install driver/storage/mpt_sas
?
any ideas for how i should proceed? i was under the impression that
support for this chipset was integrated as of 131.
It's actually been in onnv since build 119.
