ENODATA. You haven't given any logfile messages, you haven't said whether the disk you yanked out was in use... Also, in your first email you said you ran #fmadm faulty Now - did you actually type the octothope char before fmadm, or is that a mis-paste? The "#" is a shell comment character, so whatever you type after it will be ignored.
It is hard to believe that FMA is this broken. It most likely is some configuration that I am missing. If FMA doesn't work, there must be something else I can do.
FMA does work, we make sure that it does because we depend on it doing so. Also, just "yanking out a disk" is not what I would suggest as being a valid test case for disk failure.
Can I use "iostat -E" to identify if a disk has failed?
Not really, no. But checking the error counts associated with a disk should give you some clue. You should also have a look at the output from cfgadm -lav James C.
