"Well, I upgrade my KDE at home over this last long weekend so that I
could
use kmail2. And once again my keyboard mapping is all fscked."

I am sorry to hear of your kb probs. Make sure your /dev/X11/XF86Config
has only has the following: (lines w/ # infront don't count)

# **********************************************************************
# Keyboard section
# **********************************************************************
Section "Keyboard"
        Protocol "Standard"
        AutoRepeat 500 5
        XkbKeymap "xfree86(us)"
EndSection

This worked for me. Hopefully it is all you need.
(hope I did not over simplify this)

I was wondering if you culd fire up ktop for me and tell me what the
memory consumption of kmail2 is. Make sure that you do not have the
composer window or abook window open as this will inflate the figure.
Thankyou
