why don't you point your tree to unstable

edit your /etc/apt/sources.list

change all refs to potato, or stable, to unstable.

apt-get update
apt-get install balsa

if you like balsa, it should be the latest version, i've seen things apear really fast 
in unstable. actually.

if you're up for some mysql setup, and perl module installs...  pronto is a really 
nice e-mail client.
