Kppp will run fine if you set PPP up properly.

The key points are:

edit /etc/resolv.conf, add "nameserver <your ISPs IP address>"

chmod a+r /etc/resolv.conf /etc/host.conf /etc/nsswitch.conf

edit /etc/ppp/options, delete "auth" and add "noath"

(the " signs are field markers, DON'T enter them.)
