Thanks for your valuable comments about TLUD usage. I hope others
reply with more TLUD stories, so I have added the Stoves Listserv to
receive this message and yours below.
You added a fan to the other units. Please consider fan assistance in
the TLUD indoors. And perhaps an exhaust fan in the hood for those
moment of changing the TLUD / refilling. And if you allow for using
prepared pellets as fuels, I think you might be able to use it indoors
WITH a hood or with a chimney on the stove body. We are looking for
solutions for bringing TLUDs indoors with chimneys.
Where are you located? Climate / weather certainly can impact usage.
And please tell more about TLUD usage outdoors.

Su Ba, I too have generated most of my domestic heat from biochar
stoves for the past few years. I hate to see all that heat wasted,
fuel costs are going up and I would rather keep a constant trickle of

Tlud stoves are great for outdoor use when the weather is fine but we
get a lot of rain here and it can be cold in winter. I have used tluds
under hot plates, ovens and water heaters and find that they are not
usually suited to indoor use (i.e. attached to a flue pipe) as they
need removing to be filled, lit and emptied.
Do you do all your cooking out doors?
Has anybody else managed to adapt tluds for easy, smokeless indoor use
(attached to a flue)?
Although they are more complicated to make than tluds, I have
hybridised rocket and anila stoves and added forced air (a computer
fan) to build a stove which can be filled and emptied through hatches
and which is lit from the front and so does not need moving to fill,
light or empty it.
I have a couple of horses and use the biochar on the stable floor
before using it. This ensures that it gets crushed fairly well without
dust and has many benefits.
