Interesting post, Doc. The report is nicely written.

You ran into a problem I saw in Cambodia in December: combustion products from gasifiers destroying galvanized metal very quickly.

A prototype rice husk gasifier at a person's house had eaten through the galvanized roofing in a matter of weeks. This same person had been using charcoal stoves in the kitchen for years without issue.

Crispin suggested that it could be high moisture content in the rice husk fuel vs. the charcoal. I thought it might also have to do with sulfur content.

Anyhow, I think it's an interesting further observation of the difficulty of material selection in combustion systems. I would have thought that after combustion, the products would be "clean" enough to not do significant damage to metal. Not the case, it seems!
