Highly motivated students are sought to conduct field- and lab-based experimental research on emissions from solid fuel use (cookstoves) in developing countries, with a focus on India. One position will focus on in-field measurement of technology adoption and performance and air pollution exposures, in collaboration with a diverse team of engineers, atmospheric scientists and social scientists studying the impact of upgraded stoves in rural India. A second position will focus on lab and field measurements of secondary organic aerosol production from the aging of biofuel combustion emissions. Required qualifications for interested students include an MS in environmental, chemical or mechanical engineering. The ideal candidate(s) will have a strong background in air pollution, aerosols and/or atmospheric chemistry, instrumentation, laboratory and/or field measurements and some prior international/field work experience. Some hands-on experimental experience is required and some background in scientific computing applications for data analysis (e.g. Igor Pro or Matlab) is highly desirable. These projects are amazing opportunities for the right individuals to do high quality technical research (in the lab and in far-flung locations) on a pressing global problem affecting billions of people around the world.
