    I conclude from this mode of operation, that very little char is obtained 
in their normal mode of operation.   I’d be interested in how much char they 
could get from a maximum single charge (that might be 10 pounds?), if they 
stopped operation when the pyrolysis front had traveled to the bottom.  If not 
20%, something is wrong.

   One of their answers to questions at their web site discouraged use of 
existing fire pits.  I think the answer should depend a lot more on the size of 
the existing fire pit.  I’d guess that an existing fire pit of 15 “ diameter 
would work fine.
