If you like an idea, you'll be for it. If you don't, you'll be against it. If it affects you negatively, you'll be against it as well. When an issue does not personally affect you, you'll either line up with those in power (who get what they want), or those out of power, who are speaking up because they are negatively affected and don't want it. Some of us like to hang with the haves (power) and others of us hang with the have nots. It's basic human nature. For example, I'm not happy about the waste wood incinerator on Kellogg. Some people have said that I'm "irrational" because it burns trash that would otherwise go into a landfill and it is better than burning coal. When that treated wood is shredded outdoors on an industrial scale in my neighborhood I tend to become vocal about the fact that the plant is not "green". The plant pollutes–here and in downtown. Burn is burn. Some people will look more deeply, see the big picture, and be willing to go against the grain for the few that are heavily impacted. Others say, "you should do your part," whatever that means. I say, it is a waste incinerator which requires a huge amount of dirty truck traffic and it displaces the truly green technologies that we should invest in–the ones that don't pollute.
