A "risky" loan for the bookstore?

Sure. Why not?

You, that are against this idea, seem to forget that
by default, we are all greedy capitalists here. You
don't vote for somebody that is going to turn their
backs on you, personally / professionally. When your
guy wins, it's time to extend the hand that made that
"win possible.

Ya'll seem to forget that we're in a war here. As in
any war: to the victor goes the spoils, which is, an
opportunity to punish your enemies and reward your
friends and allies.

Corruption? you say?

In Chicago, they admit it. In the Twin Cities, we're
too namby-pamby to even think about it. In a
capitalistic society, which we are, we prefer to think
of (we have thousands of "polite" names for it)bribes,
kickbacks, payoffs and "risky" loans as something
"sinful", when in reality, it's nothing more than
"business" as usual. It's who ya know and who ya pay.

You can't have a capitalistic society without it. See
Tom Goldsteins' post.

CrapitalismHow do you like it so far?
