Post news and information from your neighborhood: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] _________________________________________ For posting the NEAT information on the SPPS budget cuts and the forum this Thursday. I have been just SWAMPED (took the Girl Scouts x-country skiing this weekend, annual winter camping with the dads; what a hoot! I got the van thoroughly stuck in the snow, but my husband still loves me!)
For those who may not know, NEAT is a citywide association of people working to improve public education in Saint Paul. We've just revised our bylaws and mission statement to make the association more inclusive (formerly designed to support parent groups operating in the schools). The 2004 priority objective of the NEAT board is to build the membership base and communication infrastructure so we can responsibly represent St. Paul parents, parent organizations and community members working to improve public education in Saint Paul. In December we turned down an opportunity to participate in a press release about the social studies standards because we felt we couldn't responsibly represent Saint Paul parents (without having asked them). In February, I decided to go ahead and testify at a Senate Education Committee hearing on the Minnesota Star Rating System for Academic Achievement because I was SO concerned about the damage it is doing and, even more so, its social engineering implications. We're gearing up to collaborate with parent organizations forming across the state to "raise the conversation to a higher level." The video/slide mix at NEAT> Commentary is a bit kludgy, but it's the best I can do for now (without being a techno wizard). The thank you letter makes a lot more sense if you've watched the video. --Jennifer Armstrong, President NEAT - the St. Paul Network of Education Action Teams 651/774-2957 [EMAIL PROTECTED] www.stpaulneat.org === This email is intended for people concerned about public education in St. Paul.
