Dear Subscribers:

This week we will be welcoming a number of new participants in our forum as we put some focus on the 2004-2005 school district budget and proposed reductions in spending. (NOTE: Other St. Paul related discussions may continue at the same time). I ask that everyone be respectful and patient with these new participants.

The purpose of this "focused discussion" is to provide an opportunity for all of us to seek a better understanding of difficult budget pressures that the school district is facing and to provide community feedback to the district regarding their proposed course of action.

As much as possible, we'll be trying to share background information and post links to relevant articles or web sites, to help inform our discussion.

We understand that some of you may have some sharp criticisms of the district and their budget proposal, this is understandable and appropriate. However, we ask that participants:

  - be respectful of district staff & school board members
  - whenever possible, be specific and use examples
  - try to be constructive and offer suggestions or possible
       solutions
  - ask questions...... don't jump to conclusions

If you know of additional links to useful information, please let me know.

Looking forward to our discussion,

Best wishes,
