Good afternoon. My name is Willie Nesbit. I've lived in the Midway for
almost 20yrs. My oldest daughter graduated from Highland Park Senior High
and my youngest daughter attends Crosswinds Middle School in Woodbury. My
relationship with SPPS is as the director of the Ron Hubbs Center for
Lifelong Learning at 1030 University Ave. and Assistant Director of
Community Education for Adult Learning. I've been employed for over 6yrs.
with SPPS. I've been a PTO chairperson for Benjamin Mays and been
involved with the district in many other ways. I believe in public
education and support my wife Phyllis who has been teaching in the
district schools for over 10 yrs. She like most other teachers need all
the support they can get to continue working hard in the face of
gargantuan criticism and dwindling resources. I'm usually a lurker on
this forum because I deem the discussion topics and the discussions very
important and useful. I'm always impressed with the information and depth
of understanding of participants on issues discussed here. willie

1) PERSONAL EXCHANGES:
I've noticed that the discussion about the Stadium has begun to get a
little personal and have contacted SEVERAL participants off-line.
Please, let's keep the discussion respectful and take any personal
exchanges offline.
2) INTRODUCTIONS:
I'd like to thank those of you who've introduced yourselves this
morning and talked a bit about your own connection to the school
district. I know that this exercise is a little different in the
context of our forum, but I think it might be a very healthy and
productive experiment.
However, for this to work, we need to hear from more of you. Please,
feel free to keep your introduction very quick and brief.
Who is out there? And what connections, if any, do you have to the
school district?
So far, we've heard from (excuse my summaries):
1) Tim Erickson - List Manager, Graduate, Parent, Volunteer
2) Mike Fratto - Parent (children not in district), St. Paul Resident
3) Anne Carroll - Graduate, Parent, Volunteer, Member of School Board
4) Joelle Tegwen - Parent (child not in district), works for
College of Education, Has Ideas to Share....
5) Suzanne Yeager - Director of Communication For District,
Parent (children attended public schools in Ohio)
6) Jennifer Armstrong - I'm a mom of 4 kids, 4 schools and an
active volunteer with NEAT. www.stpaulneat.org
7) Mary Baker - Recent transplant to St. Paul,
parent of pre-schooler, interested in home schooling
resources
We all know that there are lots more of you out there (over 350
subscribers). I don't expect to hear from everyone, but lets see if
we can't make this list grow a little.
Can we get to 10 introductions by NOON!
:-)
Thanks,
--
