Following your line of reasonong then Chuck, you believe a public purpose is being served by having the city's elected officials attend these events.

If that is the case then it is reasonable for the city to pay to have the elected officials attend. The city council votes to spend the money and the voters can hold them accountable at the ballot box if they care enough about it. If the purpose of attending is to conduct the public's business then the officials should not expected to cover the expense from their personal funds. If the elected officials want to reimburse the city for the expense from their own funds fine, it is their money they can do what they want with it.

If attending these events is in the best interests of the city as you say Chuck, does that mean that Councilmembers Benanav and Thune were slackers for not attending? The Excel Energy Center is in Ward 2. Just a thought. :-)
