I'll chime in and say that I was also at Como High School and simply overwhelmed at the number of people who were there - and surprised by the number of personal acquaintances that I ran into. Dennis Kucinich actually won my caucus.

- - - - One anecdote - - - - -

I live in Ward 4, precinct 15 - the precinct in which Wilson Junior High resides. As most of you may know, part of the districts budget cuts for next year include closing Wilson Junior High School and using the facility for an Adult Learners program.

This has stirred up some opposition among the people who live immediately next door to the school. They are concerned about the additional traffic and parking problems that adults will bring to the vicinity. However, there also appear to be some racial overtones to this discussion. Many of the clients/students of this adult learner facility will be immigrants and people of color. It APPEARS that the concern of some neighbors might be more about who will be using the facility than it is about where they will park.

One neighbor brought a resolution to my caucus Resolving that "Wilson Remain a Neighborhood Junior High." Several people spoke in opposition to this resolution, concerned about the racial overtones of the debate and in the end, the resolution was soundly defeated.

Best wishes,
