Index of SPPS Budget Discussion http://www.e-democracy.org/stpaul/spps-posts.html _________________________________________ The "Midway Lurker" has it all wrong regarding 35E PARKWAY. This is not a freeway and freeway rules/protocol regarding the left lane do not apply to this PARKWAY.
I also make it a practice to travel the PARKWAY with my cruise set at 45mph. When I intend to travel north on I35E from 35E PARKWAY I use the far left lane because otherwise I would not have access to the lanes of I94 that lead to I35E. And yes I frequently experience road ragers honking or giving me the bird. I usually keep looking forward, but do occasionally give in to turning my head and laughing. 35 PARKWAY has a 45 mpg limit and is off limits to 18 wheelers. In traveling 35E PARKWAY several times a day a day seldom goes by that I have not seen at least one 18 wheeler traveling along and countless drivers going over 45 mpg with impunity. I have the e-mail address of the State Patrol's office for citizen complaints about traffic violations in my Outlook contacts. When I see an 18 wheeler on the PARKWAY I frequently jot down the date, time and license plate number of the truck and e-mail a complaint. I have been tempted to phone the numbers on the truck with the "how's my driving?" question and make a complaint. I resist this urge because I figure that the driver is working for some slave driver with unrealistic expectations about what is reasonable for employees to accomplish. The trucks I see most often are the blue ones from Eagan. I actually e-mailed the State Patrol questioning whether this company was awarded a dispensation or a waiver to state rules governing the PARKWAY (of course I received no reply). Regarding the norm of speeding on the PARKWAY ... what an extreme revenue generating opportunity lost. I was recently ticketed for driving 56-59mph on a country road in Goodhue County that was posted 55 mph. I was traveling to Randolph MN for my sons' basketball game. While at the game I looked over to the home team bleachers and thought -- wow ... if each of these people received a $100+ ticket as they sped past my home neighborhood along 35E PARKWAY maybe it would impact the behavior behind the dangerous and inconsiderate speeding through my neighborhood. I thought of these folks driving to high school tournaments, Wild games and all the assorted events that bring most rural folks to DT St. Paul at least once each year. How many of these folks drive above the posted limits in my neighborhood? I am convinced they know that they speed on the PARKWAY with impunity. On another note ... the current trend regarding freeways through metropolitan downtowns is to dismantle them. Efforts to increase the speed on 35E PARKWAY is more about people trying to keep the 50s and 60s alive along with the period mentality of building freeways. We need leaders that have some vision and understanding about how today's' decisions impact our little piece of the planet for eternity. [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mary C.
