What one is afraid of says as much about the person as about the situation.
I go to Arnellia's. I take my wife. We are not afraid of going there. I
have never felt like a target. Someone was shot 3 blocks from my house. I
still walk that corner. It would be stupid of me to be afraid of ever place
where something bad happens. I would certainly not enter the capitol or
city hall. Arnellia's has great music and should be visited.

To tell you the truth, Willie, I can't get a white guy to take me down
there. They feel like a moving target in that area at night. That's not the
way it should be.

And you're right. I haven't been shot. Not yet. And I don't want to be.
I wasn't in Arnellia's the night the guy came in with his gun cocked and
firing into the crowd. But I could have been. I was planning on going
Sunday night for the benefit when the Westside Band was playing. Had a
special invite. But I didn't think it was a good time to go. Too volatile.
Shooter still on the loose.

How many shootings have been at Arnellia's in recent years? How many
fights? How many police calls?

And hey, I love getting down and sweaty on Arnellia's dance floor better
than anyone. But I want to feel safe coming and going, you know what I
mean?

That's very interesting and I understand how you could feel, to a point.
But to my recollection, white women have not been victims there. As a
matter of fact the last victim was a Black male. Arsenio Hall used to say

I've been busy so I haven't had time to respond to comments on this
thread.

Well, Willie, you're not a white woman. The only way I will go down to
Arnellia's at night is if I have a large black man to escort me. And even
then, sometimes it gets tense.

I'm wondering how many people have to be shot at Arnellia's before some
serious measures are taken. Yes, it needs a better police presence. Yes,
it needs better lighting. Yes, there has to be more cooperation with the
city to clean up the area. Yes, there has to be a reevaluation of
programming and events. And Yes, they have to do a better job of cleaning
up the drug traffic. Sheesh. Everytime I go to White Castle I could arrest
a half dozen for dealing.

But the city, the police and Arnellia's owners can't keep ignoring the
problem and keep hoping it goes away. They need to get serious.
