Sometimes, the right thing is also the easy thing. What Kelly is doing
certainly helps him a lot -- makes him very statesmanlike, and also
catches him at his best. As much as I've been critical of him, he can be
a truly nice guy, especially to kids and people who need him.

I think the whole trip is just a great thing. Let's make the transition
easier for everyone. So what if he looks good in the meantime? He
deserves it. Much as I'd like to see a new mayor, I'm really impressed
with this trip.

A similar point was raised about the Council going after the stadium --
isn't that an easy vote, if it's what people want? How is it
'courageous'? And the answer is simple -- the people with money are
going to come after you for it, even if the people of your Ward know you
did the right thing. The 'courage' is nothing more than being able to
trust the people of your Ward, which is something that Dave THune does.
He knows that they won't listen to expensive campaign smears, so he can do
the right thing and do it with a light heart.

A lot of times, in fact I'd argue most of the time, the right thing really
is the easy thing. It just means you've cast your lot one way or the
other. If you know who you are, and know who you represent, that's not a
hard thing to do. Both Randy Kelly and Dave Thune did something this week
that looks courageous, but really comes down to them being themselves and
trusting their instincts -- and trusting the people of the City. They
were both right, and right bigtime.

We have leadership in Saint Paul, and it's good. Now, when Randy comes
home, we'll see the sparks fly between the two 'Leaders'. :-)
