Just one other thought that hasn't come up when discussing the merits of a 3% sales tax and who that means pays for a stadium.
When those who punch a time clock for their employment fill out their taxes they either take the standard deduction or fill out a schedule A that lets them deduct things like medical costs or their mortgage interest. When the big boys who own their own businesses or are self employed do their taxes they fill out a form that allows them to deduct the costs of travel and entertainment.
So, if they purchase season tickets to the Twins, it is a business expense and tax deductible and when they go out to eat at a business lunch or dinner it is tax deductible. So, remember sports fans when you buy that happy meal for the kiddies you get to help pay for the stadium but when the big boys Downtown stop at the Grill after the game you paid for they will deduct from their earnings the cost of the meal and the 3% tax!
Isn't a food and beverage tax a wonderful thing? It makes sure that those who should pay taxes continue to do so, those who don't make enough to get the tax breaks the wealthy deserve.
Why do you think the big boys advocate this kind of a tax? They don't ever have to pay it. Remember the golden rule. He who has the gold makes the rules.
