A letter to the editor published in Sunday's Pioneer Press was written by John Wolf who is identified as the owner of Dixie's on Grand. In the letter Mr. Wolf states:
"Being part of the bar and restaurant scene in St. Paul, we also are willing to help pay the price and see the proposed 3 percent tax as both fair and wise."
I also am part of the bar and restaurant scene in St. Paul as a customer, and I feel the 3 percent tax is neither fair nor wise. So to Mr. Wolf (who resides in Eagan by the way) who wants to raise St. Paul's bar and restaurant tabs to fund a stadium for the Twins I say "Fine". I'll do my drinking and eating at establishments that aren't so willing to allow their patrons to be fleeced.
Starting today and continuing until the stadium debate has concluded I am starting my own boycott of bars and restaurant owners that want to pad my bill to fund a stadium. To Dixie's on Grand goes the honor of being at the top of my list followed by Fabulous Fern's on Selby Ave owned by Charles Senkler. This month's issue of Avenues reports that Mr. Senkler is one of the leaders of the pro-stadium effort. Now if I could just find out who the other 68 bar and restaurant owners are that the stadium and sales tax package I could complete my list.
To parapharase Mr. Wolf "Let's hear from the customers and debate this issue out in the open."
