When the children were younger and bedtime rolled along, it was often a struggle to get their minds around doing all the tasks necessary to get to bed, so we reverted to the time-honored tricks all parents use. It wasn't "Do you want to get your jammies on now?" Instead, it was "What color jammies do you want to wear tonight?" In doing so, we conveniently bypassed the sticky question of whether the child wanted to put the jammies on at all because we all knew that a screaming, insistent, stubborn child would never willingly agree to so horrible a fate. I was reminded of this tactic by my spouse last night while hearing news stories of governor Pawlenty's decision on stadium issues - a decision that again seems to have blipped over the question of whether we should undertake a massive handout to people who don't need the money and went straight to the question of how to undertake a massive handout to people who don't need the money. Yoo-hoo, St. Paul taxpayers..... What color jammies do you want tonight? Diane Gerth I really live in the West End P. S. Did anyone else catch that the Lancaster, PA newspaper (and who would know better than they?) recently referred to the Gopher State Ethanol plant as "the industry's Three Mile Island."
